Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast
Hebrews 6:19 (KJV)
(This hope is) …an unbreakable spiritual lifeline
Hebrews 6:19 (MSG)
…we who have fled [to him] for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed for us and set before [us]. [now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it…
Hebrews 6:18 – 19 (AMP)
Our hope in God anchors us, it gives us mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement.
Godly hope is an anchor, it is an unbreakable spiritual lifeline. What does an anchor do? One of the definitions of an anchor is:
“a …thing which provides stability or confidence in an otherwise uncertain situation”.
Our hope and trust in God provides us with stability and confidence in this otherwise uncertain world.
Synonyms of the word anchor are words like, mainstay, cornerstone, bulwark, foundation and linchpin.
Our hope in god anchors us, it gives us mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement.
Romans 8:23 – 55 tells us that our salvation is anchored in the hope of the redemption of our bodies (the rapture).
This subject reminds me of the hymn, My Hope Is Built. You may know it as Solid Rock. The second verse of this hymn reads:
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
Is your anchor holding or failing?
Where is your soul anchored? What is it anchored in? In sinking sand or on Christ the solid Rock who is within the veil (of the Holy of Holies)? Are you anchored at all?
Step out in faith anchored in the hope that comes from God; this anchor is sure and steadfast, it is trustworthy; it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it.
Prayer:
Oh Lord let my soul be anchored in your presence (Hebrews 6:19)
Let me be steadfast and immovable (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Let no adverse circumstances move me (Acts 20:24) Declaration: “I shall not be moved” (Psalm 16:8)
